Your Revolut prepaid debit card is issued by Metropolitan Commercial Bank (MCB), Member FDIC. When you add funds to your Revolut account, they’ll be credited to your prepaid card account held at MCB. When you make payments from your account, they’ll be taken from the account held by MCB. You can hold money in different currencies at the same time using your Revolut account with MCB.
Vaults - USD-denominated Savings Vaults are held as part of your prepaid card account.
Foreign Currency - Foreign currency is also held as part of your prepaid card account.
FDIC Insurance - Your prepaid card account is insured for up to $250,000 by the FDIC. The funds you hold in other deposit accounts at MCB are combined with the funds you keep in your prepaid card account. Together, your accounts will qualify for up to the maximum insurance of $250,000. Accounts aren’t insured separately by the FDIC.
The insurance coverage applies per depositor, per FDIC-insured bank, and per ownership category. Deposits held in different ownership categories are separately insured. You can learn more about these ownership categories using the Deposit Insurance FAQs.
Funds in your Savings Vault are held at Sutton Bank, Member FDIC. When you put money in a Savings Vault, we deduct it from your prepaid card account held at MCB, and it’s sent on to an account at Sutton Bank. When you withdraw money from your Savings Vault, the money gets sent back to your prepaid card account. Funds held in your Savings Vault are insured for up to $250,000. This limit applies to all your deposits held at Sutton Bank but doesn’t include Prepaid Card Account funds held at MCB.
Cryptocurrency services are provided solely by Paxos Trust Company LLC. Paxos is licensed to engage in virtual currency business activity by the New York State Department of Financial Services. Revolut Technologies Inc. and Metropolitan Commercial Bank do not provide cryptocurrency services.
You can ask us to buy virtual currencies on your behalf, using the fiat currency* in your prepaid card account and this virtual currency will be held for you. When you sell your virtual currency, we credit your prepaid card account for the fiat currency exchanged.
Cryptocurrencies are not legal tender, are not backed by the government or guaranteed by any bank, are not regulated and may lose value. The account you establish to hold cryptocurrencies is not a bank account or a deposit account, and value balances are not subject to protection from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation or Securities Investor Protection Corporation. In the event of an insolvency of Paxos, your claim would be addressed under New York law.
Premium and Metal customers are eligible for travel insurance provided by Chubb. Claims are made directly to Chubb, decisions on coverage are made by Chubb and any questions or complaints should be made to Chubb.
