Have Internet connection will travel

With vaccine programmes underway and talks of travel bubbles in the pipeline, it feels like travel-deprived Singaporeans are finally seeing light at the end of the tunnel. But if you can't wait that long to fill the gaping hole in your (wander)lusty heart, here are some Netflix recommendations you can get onboard with.

Formula 1: Drive to Survive
As one of the most glamorous sports on the planet, the Formula 1 (or F1, for short) calendar is one that's packed with exotic venues around the world, good-looking drivers, and even better-looking cars. What makes this show an utter winner is the compelling behind-the-scenes look into how the teams are run. Rivalries between drivers are par for the course as are heart-stopping overtaking manoeuvres and surprising podium finishes.

Flavourful Origins
For those who travel because of food glorious food, Netflix has tons of shows about travelling and eating. One of our favourites is the Chinese documentary called Flavourful Origins. With ASMR shots of food being prepared (all those soothing cracking, crunching, chopping sounds) and breathtaking views of farmlands and mountains, we bet our last dollar you'll be ordering mala xiangguo on Deliveroo after just one episode.

Joanna Lumley's Silk Road Adventure
Even if you're too young to know what Absolutely Fabulous is, this four-episode travelogue sees the British actress/author/activist retracing Marco Polo's footsteps on the famed Silk Road. She takes us to places like Georgia, Iran, Uzbekistan, and finally Kyrgyzstan, taking in the myriad cultures one will find on such a journey. Also on Netflix are Lumley's travelogues on Japan and the Trans-Siberian Railway.

It doesn't matter if you're not a K-drama or Mandopop fan. Just watching Korean star Lee Seung-gi and Taiwanese idol Jasper Liu interact (neither speaks the other's language) as they work together to solve puzzles to locate their fans in Indonesia, Nepal, and Thailand will make you chuckle out loud.
