In celebration of International Women’s Day, Revolut is teaming up with Doctors Without Borders/ Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) to support free medical care in a maternity hospital in Yemen.
Reaching medical care in Yemen is a difficult and dangerous process. The country’s public health infrastructure has collapsed under the strain of violence, displacement and the dissolution of state institutions.
And the bombings, airstrikes and fighting makes travelling even short distances potentially very dangerous, even for families who have the money to hire a car, which many do not. As a result, women and children often arrive at medical facilities too late for their lives to be saved.
Taiz Houban Mother and Child Hospital 👶🏾
MSF established its Taiz Houban Mother and Child Hospital in late 2015, converting a local hotel into a 130-bed hospital and trauma centre.
For families in the area, it means that life-saving healthcare is now much closer at hand. The hospital provides free medical care to children under five and women of reproductive age, with services including the management of complicated deliveries and neonatal care.
Since opening, demand for these services has been high and has increased year on year. The number of babies born there has more than doubled from 4,100 in 2016, to 10,584 in 2019.
The hospital in Taiz Houban helps women survive during childbirth, but to continue to operate centres like this, MSF needs vital funds. Donate and show your support this International Women’s Day.
